Acoustic Impedance

Specific acoustic impedance is a measure of the ability of a medium to transmit sound waves. It expresses the coupling between vibrating particles in the medium and can be calculated as the product of density and velocity of sound.

Acoustic Impedance Calculator

Specific acoustic impedance (Z) is calculated using:

Z = ρ × c

Where:

  • Z = Acoustic impedance (Pa·s/m)
  • ρ = Density of medium (kg/m³)
  • c = Velocity of sound in medium (m/s)

Alternatively, acoustic impedance can be expressed as:

Z = P / v

Where:

  • P = Sound pressure (Pa)
  • v = Particle velocity (m/s)
