Key Formulas

Power and Torque Relationship

P = T × ω where:

  • P = power (W)
  • T = torque (Nm)
  • ω = angular velocity (rad/s)

Alternative Forms

P = T × 2π × nrps (using rotations per second)

P = T × π × nrpm / 30 (using rotations per minute)

P = T × nrpm / 5252 (imperial units: power in hp, torque in ft lbf)

Rearranged for Torque

T = 30 × P / (π × nrpm)

Angular Acceleration Torque

T = I × α where:

  • I = moment of inertia (kg⋅m²)
  • α = angular acceleration (rad/s²)

Unit Conversions

  • 1 radian = 360° / 2π ≈ 57.296°
  • Angular velocity: ω = 2π × rpm / 60
