Anthracite Coal

Anthracite coal is available in a number of different grades or sizes. Each size is suited for different sizes of grates and firepots, including buckwheat, egg, stove, chestnut, pea, and broken grades.

Anthracite Coal Grades

Anthracite coal is available in a number of different grades or sizes:

  • Buckwheat - Used in automatic coal firing burners in domestic, commercial and industrial stokers
  • Egg - Used in large firepots, usually with beds more than 16 inches deep
  • Stove - Used for heating buildings. Mostly replaced with gas or oil
  • Chestnut - Used in medium firepots, usually with beds ranging 10-15 inches
  • Pea - Small grade anthracite
  • Broken - Broken pieces of anthracite coal

Each size is suited for different sizes of grates and firepots.
