Decibel A, B and C

Calculator for Decibel A, B and C sound pressure level filters. The human ear is more sensitive to sound in the 1 to 4 kHz frequency range. This tool helps compensate for human hearing using A, B, and C weighted decibel filters commonly used in sound measurement.

Decibel A, B and C Sound Filters

The human ear is more sensitive to sound in the 1 to 4 kHz frequency range than to sound at very low or very high frequencies. Sound meters use filters to adapt measured sound response to human hearing:

  • dB(A): Most widely used, corresponds to 40 dB equal-loudness curve
  • dB(B): Between A and C, rarely used
  • dB(C): Practically linear, suitable for high sound pressure levels

This calculator helps you work with these decibel-weighted measurements.
