Great Sensible Heat Factor - GSHF

Calculator for Great Sensible Heat Factor (GSHF), which determines the capacity of a cooling coil to handle sensible heat load and cool fresh make-up air. GSHF is independent of total air flow and is calculated from sensible/total heat generation, fresh air mass flow, specific heat, temperatures, and specific enthalpies.

Great Sensible Heat Factor - GSHF

The Great Sensible Heat Factor represents the ratio of sensible cooling capacity to total cooling capacity and is calculated using:

GSHF = (Qs + mf × cp × (tf - tr)) / (Qt + mf × (hf - hr))

Where:

  • Qs = Sensible heat generated in the room (kW)
  • Qt = Total heat generated in the room (kW)
  • mf = Fresh air mass flow - make up air (kg/s)
  • cp = Specific heat of air (kJ/kg°C)
  • tf = Temperature in fresh air (°C)
  • tr = Temperature in room air (°C)
  • hf = Specific enthalpy of fresh air (kJ/kg)
  • hr = Specific enthalpy of air in the room (kJ/kg)
