This calculator uses the Riazi and Sahhaf equations to estimate melting points for different hydrocarbon groups:

  • n-Alkanes (Paraffins): Carbon range C5-C40
  • n-Alkycyclopentanes (Naphthenes): Carbon range C7-C41
  • n-Alkycyclohexanes (Naphthenes): Carbon range C7-C20
  • n-Alkybenzenes (Aromatics): Carbon range C9-C42

Equations:

  • TM (n-alkanes) = 397 - exp(6.5096 - 0.14187·M^(2/3))
  • TMCP (cyclopentanes) = 370 - exp(6.52504 - 0.04945·M^(2/3))
  • TMCH (cyclohexanes) = 360 - exp(6.55942 - 0.04681·M^(2/3))
  • TMA (aromatics) = 356 - exp(6.62282 - 0.10019·M^(2/3))

where M is molecular weight in g/mol and TM is melting point in Kelvin (K)
