Impulse and Impulse Force
Calculate impulse, force, momentum change, and resulting velocity based on Newton's Second Law of Motion. Impulse forces act for a very short time and the impulse equals the change of momentum.
Impulse and Impulse Force
Forces acting for a very short time are called impulse forces. According to Newton's Second Law of Motion:
F = dM / dt
Where:
- F = applied force (N)
- dM = change of momentum (kg m/s)
- dt = time taken (s)
The impulse I = F × dt = dM (change in momentum)
Momentum M = m × v, where m is mass (kg) and v is velocity (m/s)
