The density of humid air varies with water content and temperature. Water vapor is lighter than dry air components (O₂ and N₂), so increased moisture reduces overall air density.

This calculator uses the formula:

ρ = ρref × (1 + x) / (1 + 1.609x)

Where:

  • ρ = density of moist air (kg/m³)
  • ρref = reference density of dry air (kg/m³) = p / (Ra × T)
  • x = humidity ratio (kg_H₂O/kg_dry_air)
  • Ra = 286.9 J/(kg·K) (gas constant for dry air)
  • p = total pressure (Pa)
  • T = absolute temperature (K)
  • Rw/Ra = 1.609 (gas constant ratio)
