Radiation Heat Transfer

Calculator for radiation heat transfer from a warm object to colder surroundings using the Stefan-Boltzmann Law. Calculates net radiation loss rate based on emissivity, temperatures, and surface area.

Radiation Heat Transfer Calculator

This calculator is based on the Stefan-Boltzmann Law and calculates the net radiation heat loss rate:

q = ε σ (Th⁴ - Tc⁴) Ah

Where:

  • ε = emissivity coefficient (0 < ε ≤ 1)
  • σ = Stefan-Boltzmann constant = 5.6703×10⁻⁸ W/m²K⁴
  • Th = hot body absolute temperature (K)
  • Tc = cold surroundings absolute temperature (K)
  • Ah = surface area (m²)

Common Emissivity Values:

  • Black body: ε = 1.0
  • Oxidized iron (390°F): ε = 0.64
  • Polished copper (100°F): ε = 0.03
