Steam Heating Processes - Load Calculating

Calculate heat transfer rates and steam requirements for both batch and continuous heating processes using steam. Determine the quantity of energy needed to change or maintain product/fluid temperature.

Steam Heating Processes - Load Calculating

This tool calculates heat transfer and steam requirements for steam heating applications.

Non-Flow (Batch) Heating

Formula: P = m × cp × dT / t

  • P = Mean heat transfer rate (kW)
  • m = Mass of product (kg)
  • cp = Specific heat of product (kJ/kg·°C)
  • dT = Temperature change (°C)
  • t = Total heating time (seconds)

Flow (Continuous) Heating

Formula: P = cp × dT × (m/t)

  • P = Mean heat transfer rate (kW)
  • m/t = Mass flow rate (kg/s)
  • cp = Specific heat of product (kJ/kg·°C)
  • dT = Temperature change (°C)

Steam Requirement

Formula: ms = P / he

  • ms = Mass of steam (kg/s)
  • P = Heat transfer rate (kW)
  • he = Evaporation energy of steam (kJ/kg)
