Equilibrium Equations
Static equilibrium in a three dimensional system:
- ΣF = ΣFx = ΣFy = ΣFz = 0 (Force equilibrium)
- ΣM = ΣMx = ΣMy = ΣMz = 0 (Moment equilibrium)
For two dimensional co-planar systems:
- ΣF = ΣFx = ΣFy = 0
- ΣM = ΣMz = 0
Where:
- F = force (N, lb)
- M = moment (Nm, ft·lb)
- x, y, z = orthogonal axes
