The Ideal Gas Law

Calculate pressure, volume, temperature, and density relationships using the Ideal Gas Law. This calculator helps solve problems involving ideal gases using the fundamental equations: pV = nRuT, pV = mRT, and p = ρRT.

Equations

Primary Ideal Gas Law:

  • pV = nRu T (using moles)
  • pV = mRT (using mass)
  • p = ρRT (using density)

Where:

  • p = absolute pressure
  • V = volume
  • n = number of moles
  • Ru = universal gas constant = 8.3145 J/(mol·K)
  • m = mass
  • R = individual gas constant (depends on gas)
  • T = absolute temperature
  • ρ = density = m/V

For a given quantity of gas:

  • p₁V₁/T₁ = p₂V₂/T₂

Density calculation:

  • ρ = p/(RT)
