Saturated Steam Properties Reference

Key Parameters

  • Absolute Pressure (bar): The absolute pressure of the saturated steam
  • Boiling Point (°C): The saturation temperature at the given pressure
  • Specific Volume (m³/kg): Volume occupied by 1 kg of steam at saturation
  • Density (kg/m³): Mass per unit volume of steam
  • Specific Enthalpy of Liquid Water (kJ/kg): Sensible heat required to heat water from 0°C to saturation temperature
  • Specific Enthalpy of Steam (kJ/kg): Total heat content of saturated steam
  • Latent Heat of Vaporization (kJ/kg): Heat energy required to convert liquid water to steam at constant temperature and pressure
  • Specific Heat (kJ/kg·K): Heat capacity of the substance

Important Notes

  • Vacuum Steam: Saturated steam at temperatures below 100°C operates at pressures lower than atmospheric pressure
  • Pressure Relationship: As pressure increases, the saturation temperature increases, and the latent heat of vaporization decreases
  • Specific Volume: Decreases with increased pressure - higher pressure allows more energy transfer in steam distribution systems
  • Standard Atmospheric Pressure: 1 bar abs = 0 bar gauge = 100 kPa abs (IUPAC system)

At 1 bar (Atmospheric Pressure)

  • Water boils at 100°C
  • Sensible heat to reach saturation: 417.51 kJ/kg
  • Latent heat of vaporization: 2257.92 kJ/kg
  • Total enthalpy of steam: 2675.43 kJ/kg

At 8 bar Absolute Pressure (7 bar gauge)

  • Water boils at 170.42°C
  • Sensible heat to reach saturation: 720.94 kJ/kg
  • Latent heat of vaporization: 2046.53 kJ/kg (less than at atmospheric pressure)
  • Total enthalpy of steam: 2767.46 kJ/kg
